So, Father’s Day…. Whoa, is it this coming Sunday?! Just like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day has a real tendency to sneak up on us, don’t you think?
And yep, we’re here to remind you that the day to celebrate the awesome guys in our lives in fact falls on Sunday, June 17th this year.
Modern dads are playing their part with gusto and should be recognised for that. Research shows that they have more emotional relationships with their kids, from day one, than ever before. But, of course, we don’t need scientists to tell us how important the “go-to” guys in our lives are. Dads deserve to be celebrated; so no more socks, ties, or soap-on-a-rope (you’re welcome dads!).
Thing is, shopping for dads can be hard, especially if you’re a bit strapped for cash! So, if the nuts and biltong every year are wearing a bit thin, don’t despair, we’ve got you covered.
Here are some great ideas (sorry, sports car not included!) to show dad a little love:
Focus on him. Give him the gift of choice. If some extra Zzz is what he wants; make sure that he gets to sleep in for a few hours before bringing him breakfast in bed.
Remind him that he’s cool. Maybe he isn’t Instagramming or Snapchatting, but on his special day, remind him that he’s the coolest.
Give him your time. Whether it’s watching his favourite movie or playing a round of chess, we guarantee he will cherish this moment.
Make him a photo album. In an age where Facebook and Instagram are our public “album”, there’s nothing like printed photos to take him down memory lane.
Figure out what he needs for his next adventure. Maybe a water bottle to replenish fluids or a beanie to keep him warm.
Since it’s winter, a fluffy gown to spend weekends in will be much appreciated.
Make a toast. Make a top 10 list of why you love and respect him and how he makes a difference in your life.
To the Grill Master – a.k.a. Dad – grill tools or a great BBQ rub in a jar (check for recipes online).
Does he have a beard? Get him a beard grooming set complete with special oil, scissors and a comb.
Share an experience. Look for local events on this special day (if this is his thing) e.g. Shimmy’s has a special Father’s Day Market where Dad could informally learn how to become a Barista! There will be a special surprise for the first 100 dads through the door!
Fill a basket with his favourite goodies. Biltong, a few craft beers, his favourite sweets and great coffee; maybe add a plunger with a superhero mug?
Does he enjoy a good whiskey? Help him to sip in style with a great tumbler.
For the nerdy dad, a trendy wooden bowtie will do the trick.
A travel bag with pampering goodies for his next trip.
