The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon (SCTM), of which Fedhealth is a sponsor, will take place in the form of a virtual race on Sunday, 18 October 2020.

We’re inviting all Fedhealth members to Run Your Race In Your Space… and take part in the 42.2km Virtual Marathon, the brand new 21.1km Virtual Half-marathon, the 10km Virtual Peace Run or the 5km Virtual Peace Run.

Entry is FREE to the first 100 Fedhealth members in each race, there’s no travel required, you can run your chosen distance ANYWHERE in the world, so you will really be running your own race!

Fedhealth will also be ‘running’ another exciting competition for our members, so watch this space for more info!

Please note: FREE entries for Fedhealth members will open at the end of August, so please delay entering if you’d like to make use of this offer.

This year’s SCTM promises to be the first and biggest gold label virtual marathon in the world. It will make use of a world-class app that will track runners wherever they are running in the world, PLUS on the actual SCTM route.

Some features of the app include:

  • A pre-recorded starting ceremony you can watch before you start your event;
  • Pre-recorded surround sound of the sounds you would have heard if you were running the physical race in Cape Town – think encouraging crowds, seagulls, live music!
  • Commentary on iconic landmarks on route, such as City Hall.

Another exciting announcement is that Sir Mo Farah, world champ, multiple Olympian, gold medalist and world record holder, is the SCTM 2020 Ambassador. Sir Mo will be running the 10km Virtual Peace Run in the UK, whilst SA marathon and ultra marathon champ Gerda Steyn, will run the race in Dubai. A group of the country’s top marathoners will also be competing in the virtual marathon event across cities in South Africa – to be broadcast live on SABC on the day.

The first 10 000 entrants to enter the virtual marathon and half-marathon events will receive a Cape Town in a Box goodie ‘box’ including race number, Sanlam sponsored buff, Powerade, and some well-loved South African favourites.

Fifteen fully stocked Woolworths water tables packed with water, sweets and refreshments will be set up around SA so runners can plan their routes accordingly.
