Being obese or overweight has serious health consequences, increasing the risk of morbidity from at least 15 conditions including hypertension, Type-2 Diabetes, coronary artery disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnoea and respiratory problems, as well as cancers of the endometrium, breast, prostate, and colon. Being overweight also places considerable strain on your joints, often resulting in orthopaedic surgery.

As well as this, obese patients may suffer from social stigmatisation and discrimination, coupled with mental health issues. The onset of the Covid pandemic introduced an additional concern as there are strong links between excessive weight and deaths due to the virus.

For this reason, we’ve got a Weight Management Programme that’s perfect if you’re a Fedhealth member with a high BMI and waist circumference.

When you join the programme, you’ll participate in a 12-week, biokineticist-led intervention that will give you access to a dietician and behavioural psychologist who will help you lose the excess weight and lead a healthier life. Once the programme is completed, you’ll also receive ongoing advice and monitoring.

Who qualifies for the programme?

You’re eligible for the programme if you have the following parameters:

  • BMI ≥ 30 kg/m², or
  • Men with a waist circumference ≥ 102 cm, or
  • Women with a waist circumference ≥ 88 cm, or
  • Other cases identified by a GP or BASA biokineticist supported by a motivation e.g. members with a BMI between 25.0 kg/m² and 29.9 kg/m² with diabetes and co-morbidities.
