Mid-year changes to Fedhealth cover: what you need to know

Mid-year changes to Fedhealth cover: what you need to know

3 July 2024

In May, we sent out communications regarding potential benefit changes pending approval from the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS). We have since received approval for these changes and will be communicating their implementation dates with all of our members who will be impacted. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Take-home Medication Benefit – all options

Fedhealth covers seven days’ worth of medicine that’s prescribed in-hospital when members are discharged after a hospital event – provided this medication is either dispensed by the hospital pharmacy or at another pharmacy on the same day as the hospital discharge. This benefit will now be capped at R400 of take-home medicine per event, effective 1 July 2024.

  • Introduction of a co-payment of R2 600 on non-PMB specialised radiology – maxima PLUS

This change is effective from 1 July 2024.

  • Introduction of a Day Surgery Network: flexiFED 4, flexiFED 3, flexiFED 2

Members on these options will need to use the day surgery network to undergo day procedures or pay a R2 500 co-payment, effective 1 September 2024. There is a vast network of providers to choose from, so members should not have any issues finding a day surgery provider in their area.

  • Removal of non-PMB arthroscopies – flexiFED 1 and flexiFED 2

This change is effective from 1 July 2024.
