The Low-Down On Lockdown And Newborns

The Low-Down On Lockdown And Newborns

13 May 2022

It’s normal to feel concerned about your pregnancy or newborn, but what should parents do if they’re having a baby during a global pandemic?

According to UNICEF, “New mothers and newborns will be greeted by harsh realities, UNICEF said, including global containment measures such as lockdowns and curfews; health centres overwhelmed with response efforts; supply and equipment shortages; and a lack of sufficient skilled birth attendants as health workers, including midwives, are redeployed to treat COVID-19 patients.”

How does having a baby amongst the coronavirus differ from the norm? We chat to parents of babies born under the cloud of COVID-19 about their fears and their fight. TV presenter Graeme Richards is one such parent, and he shares with us his hospital experience with his new-born baby girl.

In the below podcast, we get the advice of a medical professional as we discuss some of the best baby practices at a time like this in detail with paediatrician Dr Enrico Maraschin.
