Find Your Inner Peace in 2024

Find Your Inner Peace in 2024

15 January 2024

New year, new-and-improved you, right? Most of us have returned to work and if you’re feeling a little weary at the thought of new challenges, you’re not alone.

It’s so cliché to make New Year’s resolutions, but when the clock hits 11.59 on December 31 this year, where do you want to be personally or in your career? Here’s the thing, while the calendar might have already turned a new page, much of the reality will still be the same in 2024. So, if you’re looking for a little inspiration on how to live life a little better this year, read on.

Many of us tend to focus on what we didn’t accomplish the previous year; we create lists and make pacts that we will do better and be better this time around. The secret though is to choose a change that fits into and enhances the life you’re already living.

Yoga has become the ultimate tool for personal equilibrium, reinforcing the mind, body and spirit connection. The benefits you’ll reap have scientifically been proven to strengthen both mental and physical well-being. Touted as a stress reliever, studies have shown – among numerous other benefits – the positive impact of yoga on people suffering from depression or PTSD.

It also tones the body – especially the core – and makes our muscles more flexible. In addition, there are a myriad of other benefits, such as better sleep, less anxiety, and decreased inflammation in the body resulting in a stronger immune system.

The beauty of yoga is that you don’t have to be a yogi or a yogini to reap the benefits. Whether you’re young or old, overweight or fit, yoga has the power to calm the mind and strengthen the body.

So, before your world becomes devoid of balance and chill, make a small, sustainable commitment. Be intimate with life. Schedule 10 minutes each day to meditate on a snippet of a past happy memory. The trick is to recreate the richness of the memory and to relish in the happy feelings that came with the memory. Concentrate on your breathing to keep your mind in the present moment.

Meditation is about being aware of what is happening right now, it doesn’t require sitting cross legged in a silent room or a yoga mat.

Be sure to surround yourself with an active community in 2024. Being around people who exercise regularly can inspire you to incorporate yoga into your routine. And also, don’t be too harsh on yourself. You’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish by being patient and gentle on your own journey.

We need to remind ourselves that we can change the way we look at ourselves and our thoughts. By making small changes on a sensory level, we can change our lives. So continue to enjoy your morning coffee as you watch the sun rise, always take off your shoes at lunch time to feel the grass under your feet, and take a minute, yes, take a minute when you feel anxious.

365 days with 365 chances. There’s no better time than now to start your yoga journey.

May 2024 be an extraordinary one!
