To Swing or Not to Swing

To Swing or Not to Swing

24 June 2024

Was it the “spark” that initially attracted you to your partner? If you’ve entered the post romantic era in your relationship and strong flames have somehow turned into dying embers, you might have thought of ways to spruce things up.

The idea of having sex with anyone other than your long-term monogamous partner might seem unimaginable. However, swinging – the social practice involving sexual contact between consenting adults, which can involve swapping partners or engaging in group sexual activities – is not rare.

When you think about swingers you might remember Mike Meyers saying in his iconic Austin Powers voice: “Swingers baby, yeah!”. But the term swinger doesn’t just apply to “groovy” people who went to sex parties in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Believe it or not, more and more couples are interested in dipping their toes (and other body parts) into the swinging waters. And for some, their relationship is booming as a result. If you’re in a secure spot in your relationship meeting and exploring sex with other couples could make you more aware of your own, as well as your partner’s sexual preferences.

There’s one caveat: you need to communicate exactly what the arrangement is and both parties need to be okay with it. Most people think any type of non-monogamy is more about sex, but if anything, it requires communication and trust. Expectations, boundaries, and comfort levels should be in place and should constantly be revisited.

Looking for trouble? Opening your sexual relationship is a big step, and is not for everyone. Swinging won’t prevent cheating and it won’t save an already rocky relationship. Remember, any time you introduce outside sexual activity into a relationship, you risk emotional issues arising. The alternative? Make a conscious decision to bring sexy back into your relationship.

We have a few tips to help you spice up things in the bedroom … or anywhere else for that matter!

  • Get in touch with your own sexuality. Put things in place so you’ll be frisky later. Read an erotic novel or watch a sexy movie to get you in the mood.
  • Wear pretty panties and match the bra! Make a twirl around the room so your partner knows what’s under the clothes today.
  • Try a new look. Try a new hairstyle, or for the guys, grow a beard.
  • Get you glam on. Pack away the yoga pants, slap on some lipstick and a skirt.
  • Shave! This goes for both sexes – a little landscaping never hurt anyone.
  • Move great smelling cologne’s and lotions to your bathroom. Essential oils will boost your libido and make you feel sexy.
  • Shower together. Make time for daytime sex.
  • Whisper. There’s something ever-so-sexy about whispering.
  • Kiss more.
  • Talk about books. No, seriously! You’ll suddenly remember how irresistibly curious and smart your partner is.
  • Plan a romantic weekend away. Just the two of you.
  • Sext him/her. Take a moment to send a sexy message. Genius? I thought so.

Embarking on consensual non-monogamy can be an exciting new adventure for any couple. Are you willing to take the risk?
