Let’s Celebrate Love

Let’s Celebrate Love

14 February 2019

Hopeless romantics love it, cynics despise it, but no one can ignore it… 14 February is Valentine’s Day!

So, do you have plans? Here’s the thing though, considering the abundance of prepackaged romance clichés, creative Valentine’s ideas are surprisingly hard to come by. And yes, although Valentine’s Day gets a bad rap for being cheesy, it has the potential to be something really special.

Hey, let’s face it, there’s nothing wrong with doing something special for your sweetheart, right? But dinner and roses? Really?

Studies have shown that couples who go on adventures together (whether it’s taking trips across borders or trying out new types of food) often report having happier, more satisfying relationships. Also, it shouldn’t take a load of commercialisation to plan something special.

So yeah, we might as well climb on the bandwagon and share a few out-of-the-box Valentine’s Day adventures that you’ll both love:

Give cupid a run for his money. Take your date to an archery range, get some lessons and let those arrows fly!

Rent a vintage car. Nothing says old-school romance like a sunset drive in a vintage car, with the wind in your hair and your favorite tune playing on the radio. Book an evening trip, that’s all you need!

Have a bonfire. If you live in the suburbs, grab some marshmallows and chocolates and spend the evening cuddling by the fire.

Get all hot and sweaty together. Romance and action? Take a spinning or kickboxing class to flood both of you with endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people love their partners. They just do.

Organise a cooking class. Heat things up… in the kitchen! Not only will you get a great meal and a couple of new skills out of it, but there’s no washing up afterwards. Bonus!

Take a trip. Play hooky for the day or wait until the weekend and venture to a destination neither of you have ever been before. Go glamping. Maybe you’ve always wanted to go abseiling or shark-cage diving or watch the sunset from a kayak, now’s your chance – be sure to find an activity that gets your hearts racing… hopefully for each other too!

Have dessert and drinks. Avoid the serious dinner date altogether and go straight for the sweet stuff.

Send your partner on a scavenger hunt. If gift-giving is your love language, send your significant other on a scavenger hunt doted with trails of rose petals and hand written clues.

There’s nothing like a bit of adventure to stir up the romance and strengthen your bond. So, go ahead, take card-and-candy day and turn it on its head.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
